Past Perfect Continuous Tense



Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Past Perfect Continuous Tense: Past Perfect Continuous Tense is used to refer to the action that had been going on for sometimes before another past action happened

Had been is used as an auxiliary verb ing is added with the main verb.

Example: It had been raining since morning.
                I had been working for two hours.
                He had been waiting for you since morning.

***Structure: Sub+had been+v+ing+ob+extension.

                       I had been working in this company for five years.
                      We had been reading in this school for ten years.
                      They had been doing the work in the garden for two hours.
                      My mother had been cooking food since morning.



Negative Sentence:

***Structure: Sub+had+not+ been+v+ing+ob+extension.

He had not been working since morning
The boys had not been coming to play for few days.
The old man had not been working here since last Monday.


Interrogative Sentence:

***Structure: Had+sub+not+been+v+ing+ob+extension?

Had not the teacher coming to your school since last Sunday?
  
*** Noted that if sub is noun then not is used before subject.

Had he not been working here for one week?
Had we not been waiting for you for two hours?
Had not your father working in this company?

Past Perfect Tense



Past Perfect Tense

Past Perfect Tense:  Past Perfect Tense is used to refer to the action that happened before another action.

Example: He had reached there before we came.
                The teacher had come before the students stood up.
***The sentence which will be used as Past Perfect Tense need had as an auxiliary verb and its main verb will be in past participle form.

***Between two works which happened before that will Past Perfect Tense and which happened after will be Past Indefinite Tense.



***Structure-1: Sub+had+vpp+ob+before+Past Tense.

The patient had died before the doctor came.
The thief had run away before the police came.
The mother had come before the child fell from the cot.



***Structure-2: Sub+vpt+ob+after+Past Perfect Tense.

The patient died after the doctor had come.
It started to rain after I had come home.
Father went away after he had seen his son.




Negative Sentence:
 ***Structure-3: Sub+had+not+vpp+before+Past Tense.

He had not done his work before We reached there.
They had not started the game before the opposite team came.


Structure-4: Had+Sub+vpp+before+Past Tense?

Had she finished her duty before you reached there?
Had the patient died before the doctor came?

Past Continuous Tense



Past Continuous Tense

Past Continuous Tense: Past Continuous Tense is used to express the action going on for sometime in the past times.

Was and were are used as auxiliary verb. Was is used for 1st and 3rd person and were is used for 2nd person and for all sorts of plural numbers.

I was plucking flowers.
She was dancing.

***Structure-1: sub+was/were+v+ing+ob+extension.

The policeman was running after the thief.
The dog was barking loudly seeing the man.
They were sleeping very soundly.
He was running in the sun.

Negative Sentence:

***Structure-2: sub+was/were+not+v+ing+ob+extension.


He was doing his duty properly.
I was not sleeping then.
We were not going to the market.


Interrogative Sentence:

***Structure-3: was/were+ sub+v+ing+ob+extension?

Were you trembling seeing him?
Were you going home?
What were they doing then?
What was your teacher teaching you?

       1.      Past  Indefinite  Tense
       2.      Past Continuous Tense
       3.      Past Perfect Tense
       4.      Past Perfect Continuous Tense





Past Indefinite Tense


Past Indefinite Tense: Past Indefinite Tense is used to express the simple action of the past.

**Verb will be in the simple past form

Structure-1: Sub+vp+ob+extension.

I did my duty very well.
I dreamt a good dream last night.
I played football here in my school life.

We went to school.

Interrogative Sentence:
Structure-2:  Did+sub+v+ob+extension?

Did you meet him?
Why did sell the bicycle?
What did you do last night?
Did you meet him?
Did she give you money?
Did your brother go to school yesterday?
Did you understand the lesson?


Negative Sentence:

Structure -3: Sub+did+not+v+ob+extension.

We did not do it.
I did not steal his money.
He did not eat his meal.
I did not see him today.
She did not come here.

***Verb before Ago and Since will be Past Indefinite Tense

He saw me long since.

***If it seems that the work was done sometimes Would is used but the work was done regularly Used to is used.

I would take tea very often.

He used to teach me English or He taught me English.

Present Prfect Continuous Tense



Present Prfect Continuous Tense

Present Perfect Continuous Tense: Present Perfect Continuous Tense is used to express the action that has been going for a period of time.

I have been doing the work since morning.

***Structure-1: Sub+have/has been+v+ing+ob+extension.

Have and has are used according to the rules of present perfect tense.

for is  used if it is  period of time, since is used for if it seems particular time.

They have been trying to do the work for two hours.
I have been waiting for you since morning.
She has been trying to memorize the poem for one hour.
They are playing football since morning.
I have doing the sums for two hours.


Negative Sentence:
***Structure-2-: Sub+have/has+not+ been+v+ing+ob+extension.

They have not been starving for two days
It has not been raining since morning.
